Hippos: The Channel’s Residents
The Kazinga Channel holds one of the world’s largest concentrations of hippos. A boat cruise puts you within meters of pods lining the banks. Despite their reputation, hippos are responsible for more human fatalities in Africa than any other large mammal—the boat cruise maintains a safe distance.

Elephants: The Savannah Giants
Elephants are common on the Kasenyi plains and along the channel. Herds move between the park and the surrounding community areas, and the camp’s unfenced boundary occasionally brings them close to the cottages. This is not a zoo—maintain distance and follow guide instructions.

Tree-Climbing Lions: Ishasha’s Famous Residents
The Ishasha sector is one of only two places in Africa where lions regularly climb fig trees (the other is in Tanzania’s Lake Manyara). The behavior is not fully understood—possibly to escape heat or insects. A day trip from Kazinga Wilderness Safari Camp is possible but requires an early start.

Buffaloes, Warthogs, and Antelopes
Buffaloes are abundant. Warthogs graze around the camp. Uganda Kobs, Waterbucks, and Topis are common on game drives.
