Queen Elizabeth National Park offers two distinct game drive experiences: the Kasenyi plains in the north and the Ishasha sector in the south.
Kasenyi Plains (Northern Sector)
This is the park’s primary game drive area and the best place to see lions. The open savannah makes spotting easy. Morning drives (6:30–9:00 AM) catch lions returning from night hunts. Afternoon drives (4:00–6:30 PM) find elephants and buffaloes moving to water. The track is accessible from Kazinga Wilderness Safari Camp in 12 minutes—the closest accommodation to the Kasenyi gate.
Ishasha Sector (Southern Sector)
Famous for tree-climbing lions, Ishasha is a 2–3 hour drive from the northern sector. It is worth a full-day excursion or an overnight extension. The fig trees along the Ntungwe River are the best places to look.
What to Bring
Binoculars, a zoom lens (200mm minimum for wildlife), a hat, sunscreen, and water. Morning drives are cold—bring a layer. The camp provides packed breakfasts for early departures.
